YUANG
Yuang – Ajang Maduk Yuang of Brooks passed away in Brooks on May 22nd, 2007 at the age of 24 years. Born in Bor, Sudan on January 1st, 1981 Ajang immigrated to Canada in May, 2001. He attended school in Ottawa, Ontario and moved to Alberta in 2005 working at Lakeside Packers. Ajang is survived by his loving family, mother Theresa Kuiir Bul and father Maduk Yuang of Bor, Sudan; brothers Lual, Mach, Madol and Chol all of Brooks; sisters Akuol of Red Deer and Aker of Calgary. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 26th from St. Alban’s Anglican Church. Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. ZACHARIAS
ZACHARIAS – Victor Jacob Zacharias of Bassano, passed away peacefully in Medicine Hat on March 27th, 2004 at the age of 76 years. Vic was born in Harris, Saskatchewan on July 18th, 1927, and moved with his family to Rosemary, where he received his education. Vic later worked for Federal Creamery, The Lindquist Store, Sun Oil and hauled milk for the late Cal Crapo, but was best known for driving school bus in Rosemary from 1956 to 1985.
ZASTRE
Zastre – Paul Robert Zastre passed away in Brooks on September 29th, 2004 at the age of 60 years. Paul was born on January 31st, 1944 in St. Rose Du Lac, Manitoba, son of Joseph and Leonchine Zastre, and resided in Magnet, Manitoba. He completed his Grade 11 in St. Rose High School and graduated from the Manitoba Institute of Technology, Winnipeg with his Masonry Certificate. He had also attended Michael Hopkins Broadcasting School. Paul had resided in Winnipeg, Dryden, Ontario and Medicine Hat before moving to Brooks. He was self employed in partnership with his brother Dave at Zastre Masonry Ltd.
ZAVERUCHA
ZAVERUCHA – Leona Marie Zaverucha, beloved wife of Jack Zaverucha of Brooks, passed away peacefully in Calgary on September 19th, 2003 at the age of 47 years. Born in Morinville, Alberta on March 18th, 1956 Leona received her education in Barrhead, Alberta and moved to Brooks in 1983 to work for Transalta Utilities. Leona and Jack were married on June 9th, 1990 in Barrhead and resided in Brooks.
ZEER
Zeer – Ethel Marie Zeer, widow of the late Ray Zeer, passed away in Brooks on May 29th, 2003 at the age of 83 years.
Born in Regina on September 23rd, 1919 she came to Alberta with her family residing in the Steveville and Duchess areas. Ethel and Ray were married on December 24th, 1938 in Hanna and resided in Alberta and British Columbia before moving to Brooks. She had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – EID Branch, Brooks. Ethel will be remembered for her love for her family and for making a good home.
Zibell
Zibell – Elizabeth (Betty) Jeannette (nee Carlson) of Bassano, beloved wife of Bill Zibell, passed away peacefully in Bassano on Sunday, August 4th, 2013 at the age of 71 years. Betty was born September 4th, 1941 in Medicine Hat to Myer and Hazel Carlson. Betty grew up in Alderson, AB., until which time they relocated to Brooks. Betty attended and graduated from Brooks High School and then married her one and only sweetheart Bill on January 7th, 1961.
ZIBELL
Zibell – Ida Zibell passed away peacefully at the Brooks Health Centre Nursing Home on November 11th, 2004 at the age of 89 years. She was born in Mendham, Saskatchewan on February 11th, 1915 and married Wilhelm (Bill) Zibell in 1939. Ida and Bill farmed in the Patricia area until Bill’s passing in 1955 when Ida and her two sons moved to Brooks.
ZIEGLER – Carl Ziegler
Ziegler – Carl Ziegler of Brooks passed away at Brooks Health Centre on July 18th, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Karl was born near Hesketh, Alberta and was raised on the family farm near Carbon. Karl received his education at Carbon and was employed in the trucking industry, as a mechanic and a water hauler. He owned Gulf Service Stations in Olds and Innisfail until 1983 and soon found employment as a mechanic with New Holland in Drumheller. Karl was an auctioneer and was also the builder of the Rose Hill Auction Mart in Drumheller.
ZUKOWSKI – Mrs. Ann Zukowski
Zukowski – Mrs. Ann Zukowski of Brooks, while surrounded by her loving family in her home, passed away on Monday, January 12th, 2015, at the age of 79 years. Ann was born on July 30th, 1935, in the mining town of Hillcrest in the Crowsnest Pass. A sparkle would often light up her eyes as she recalled the women and girls in the mining community working together to garden, bake and can food in order to ensure that they all had enough to make it through lean times. She loved that the women would all work together, tell stories and break bread.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Sheila Margaret Matthews (nee Kingston) on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the age of 87 years.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents Jack and Sally Kingston, her brother Jim Kingston; and her wonderful husband of 39 years, Ken Matthews. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Bruce, Dave (Pat), and Joan Stoesz (Brent); grandchildren Peter, Stephen (Marlise), Diana, Jim and Tom; and nieces Wilma (David), Diana (Massey), Judi (Jerome), and Meridee (Howard).
