Walpole – Debra Lu-Ann, beloved wife of Craig, passed away suddenly in her husband’s arms on November 9, 2004, at the age of 44. Born on May 14, 1960, in Rivers, Manitoba, Debbie spent a brief time in Rapid City, Manitoba and then moved with her family to Calgary, Alberta. In 1972, the family moved to Brooks where Debbie completed high school. Later, Debbie attended Medicine Hat College, Brooks Campus where she studied bookkeeping. After completing her courses Debbie created her own company, DBS Bookkeeping. Debbie loved her independence and gathering with friends for a cup of coffee, conversation and laughter. These were bright points in Deb’s life. In past years Debbie was actively involved with Community Christmas. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and was very active in various Ladies Groups and Bible Studies. Deb enjoyed cruises. Many fond memories were created on cruises with Debbie and Craig, or Debbie and mom, or with friends. These memories meant a lot to Debbie and will never be forgotten. The people Debbie met throughout her battle with Cancer, be it at a cancer retreat or during treatments in Medicine Hat, formed strong ties as friends. These relationships continued long after her time at the cancer retreat and treatments anal provided her the strength, support and friendship that carried her to the end. She received additional courage and strength to keep fighting from her husband Craig and her mom Elizabeth. Between the three of them they found support and courage in each other’s presence. She will be fondly remembered for her love of her family, for her love and support for her friends, and for the strength and support for the patients she shared treatment with in Medicine Hat. Debbie is survived by the love of her life Craig, her two sons Duane of Calgary and Jonas (Renee) of Brooks, grandchildren Aaron and Taia, parents George and Elizabeth Hanke of Brooks, sister Kathy (Tim) Willms of Patricia, sister Bonnie (Bruce) Armstrong of Mackenzie, BC, brother Jeremy Hanke of Brooks and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2004 from the Evangelical Free Church, Brooks. Rev. Don Gillett officiated.
