Volesky, Marvin Earle passed away peacefully December 24, 2008 at Brooks Auxiliary Hospital the age of 83 years.
Marvin was born December 31, 1924 to Anton (Don) & Alice Volesky on the family farm east of Lomond. He attended school at Midway (just east of his farm) and after it closed in 1939, he along with his brother Verne attended school in Lomond. Marvin served in the Royal Canadian Artillery from March 1944 until August 1946 and was stationed in Halifax. After being discharged, he bought the T.J. Armstrong farm where his brother Verne and his family lived for sixteen years. Marvin farmed alongside his father and two brothers. He loved life on the fam and was an honest hard-working man. Marvin lived to see many changes take place on the farm as this was his home for eighty years. After Marvin’s 80th birthday, he moved into Orchard Manor at Brooks in June 2005 and this would be his home for the next three years. Marvin enjoyed his time there and always looked forward to those visits back to the farm. In March 2008 Marvin’s health was failing and he then moved into the nursing home where he received excellent care. Marvin was always content wherever he had to be.
Marvin was a member of the Lomond Sunshine Drop-in Centre and looked forward to those Monday night crib parties and having a coffee with his friends there. He also enjoyed reading, especially the history books from the different rural communities. Marvin loved to read the stories of the early pioneers. He also enjoyed writing letters and kept in touch with his many cousins from the United States. His greatest love was to seed that crop in the spring and wait for those timely rains and then harvest that crop. Marvin would drive the countryside very slowly, checking out the crops. Marvin was also a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Travers. After the church closed, he then attended St. Mary’s in Brooks. Marvin was very faithful in attending services when he could.
Marvin is survived by his sister-in-law Isabel Volesky, nephew Wayne Volesky and nieces LaVonne Volesky and Leeann (Doug) Prenevost and their children Troy and Leah.
Marvin was predeceased by his parents Anton (Don) and Alice Volesky, three brothers Richard, Verne and infant brother Floyd.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday December 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Champion with Rev. Fr. Malcolm D’Souza celebrant.
We will miss you Marvin and you will be forever in our hearts.
