Lucien “Luke” Bernard Varga passed away peacefully at home, in Brooks, Alberta on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015, at the age of 76 years. Luke was born on October 17th, 1939 in the municipality of Zelzate Belgium. Luke came to Canada as a child after the Second World War. He spent most of his childhood in Picture Butte, Alberta moving to the Brooks area in the early 1970’s. When Luke wasn’t at his shop working he enjoyed spending his time Stock Car racing, hunting, fishing, camping or napping. He will be best remembered as the Grandfather of racing only retiring from racing well into his 60’s. He was a very proud man who would give you the shirt off his back if he had it and you needed it. Luke was preceded in death by his father Burt Varga and mother Emilie Baines. Luke is survived by Eileen Varga, son Jerry (Cynthia) Varga, daughters Peggy Varga, Karen Schmidtke, and Michele (Dave) McKim, sisters Rita and Laurie, his brothers, George and Dick as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
