TOOKE – Ken Tooke (David Kenneth Tooke), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, brother- in- law, cousin & friend passed away March 18th, 2015 at the Brooks Health Center.
Ken was born in Brooks on Sept. 10/46 to Arn & Hazel Tooke, the middle of 3 sons. He grew up at the south end of Lake Newell and took all of his schooling via correspondence. He got as far as grade 9 before leaving home to work. One of his first jobs was driving a gravel truck, working on the paving crews from north of Manning to the Crowsnest Pass. Ken owned his first vehicle before being legally able to drive it, resulting a few tickets for driving without a license. This didn’t deter him whatsoever from teaching his kids to drive before they could even touch the pedals. In his early 20s, Ken started working in the oil & gas industry in the production end, a career he would continue until retirement. While mainly working in Alberta, this career would take him as far north as the Arctic Circle and as far south as El Paso, TX.
Ken married Laurel (nee Pierson) on July 31, 1969. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, their children, Troy & Dee (Ethan & Allison), daughter Holly, brothers Jim (Lyn) and George (Paulette), Uncle Alan & Aunt Tilly Dyer, Aunt Betty Dyer, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Ken enjoyed his drives to the Lake, puttering in the yard, a round of golf with friends or family, playing cards or games- especially bridge. He was on the board for Prairie Pioneers, volunteered for Alberta 55+, and the Brooks and District Museum. Anyone remembering him will note his ready smile, joking and teasing nature and his ability to entertain children.
In keeping with his wishes, donations to charity are not requested. If willing or able, donate your time to the charity of your choice or spend it with your family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11th at 2P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church 811 Cassils Rd W. Brooks . 1
