Tobler – Walter Alfred Tobler of Patricia, passed away at his home pasture on July 11th, 2015 at the age of 95 years. Alf was born to John and Christina Tobler on December 3rd, 1919 at Brooks, the eldest of 10 children, and grew up in the Duchess area where his parents farmed. He attended the Wellman School and at the age of 14 went out to work. Alf’s ability with cattle made him a good match for the range rider job at the Patricia Grazing Association Lease, which he did for 14 years then continued active management in the pasture for many more years. Alf married Mary Rathgeber on July 8th, 1946 and they bought their farm near Patricia. Alf and Mary raised three sons and have resided there since. He enjoyed all aspects of the farm, especially the cattle and we are pleased he could finish his days there. Alf is survived by his wife, Mary, and sons, Larry (Val) of Patricia, Doug (Vivian) of Lloydminster, SK., and Wade (Frances) of Patricia, as well as grandchildren, Bradley (Robin) Tobler of Brooks, Jodi (John) Pisarewski of Boyle, Dalamie Tobler of Wainwright, Christina (Scott) Frazer of Ponoka, Rae Tobler of Brooks and Cassie Tobler of Strathmore as well as 11 great grandchildren. Alf is also survived by his brother, Bob Tobler, and sister, Shirley Giesbrecht, both of Calgary. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 17th at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Alf, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to either Duchess Lutheran Church (LCC), Box 217, Duchess, Alberta T0J 0Z0 or Trinity Lutheran Church, 811 Cassils Road West, Brooks, Alberta T1R 0E4.
