    Smith – Raymond Stephen Smith of Brooks, AB, passed away peacefully at his home on August 1st, 2021, just a month shy of his 97th birthday.  Born September 13th, 1924, Raymond started his life in Bracken, Saskatchewan, where he met and married his soul mate, Victoria (Vickie) March 31st, 1948.  They moved to Rolling Hills, AB in 1950 and were blessed with their family of ten.  In 1966 he moved the family and business to Brooks, where they resided ever since.  Raymond started his first business venture with a team of horses, building sidewalks in the community of Bracken, SK.  He later started Smith Trucking in Rolling Hills, hauling everything from gravel, cattle, hay, grain, pigs – pretty much whatever could be hauled he hauled.  When they moved to Brooks, his trucking business grew and slowly transitioned to what it is today.  In his retirement, Raymond enjoyed fishing with his old friends and grandkids.  He did lots of welding, building trailers, woodworking, gardening, and of course, making his daily rounds to all the job sites, keeping an eye on things.  Raymond was predeceased by his wife Vickie; daughter Carol and son-in-law Garry; son Darrell; sisters, Doris and Mae.  He is lovingly remembered by his children, Ken (Brigitte), Richard (Lisa), Lynden (Tonia), Byron (Janey), Brent (Sue), Garth (Starla), Elwood (Tammy) and Leighton (Lilianne); daughter-in-law Kathy; 31 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; siblings, Marilyn, Lorraine, Shirley, Marlene, Bev, Bob, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Funeral services and luncheon will be held on Tuesday, August 10th at 2:00 PM from the Brooks Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Garth Everett officiating.  Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.  In memory of Ray, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to either Prairie Rose Hospice Palliative Care Society, Bag 300, 440 3rd St.East, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B3 or Brooks Evangelical Free Church, 625-8th St. West, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 0E3.
