In 1949 they returned to Brooks to the family farm, then later to Wetaskiwin, Edmonton, Grande Prairie and Lethbridge, where at each stop, Joyce was able to continue her teaching career and raise her family. Joyce and Jack retired in Lethbridge in 1983. In 2006, Joyce moved to Red Deer where she could be close to her family.

Joyce was a proud Life Member of the Order of the Royal Purple, having served as Honoured Royal Lady. She also cherished her Life Membership in the U.C.W. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary, a Life Member of the Alberta Teacher’s Association, and an active volunteer throughout the community in which she lived.
