    Passed away Thursday, October 6, 2005, at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, MR. JOHN “JACK” ERNEST SHACKLETON, of Lethbridge, at the age of 87 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Joyce Shackleton. Jack was born July 31, 1918 on the family farm at Abbey, SK. The following year his family moved near Brooks, AB to homestead in the newly created irrigation district. There Jack completed his schooling and later went on to receive an Agriculture Certificate at Olds College. Jack joined the armed forces in 1941, landed in Juno Beach, Normandy, and served during the invasion of Europe. After receiving his discharge from the army in 1946 he returned to Canada and soon after accepted a position with a seed business in Edmonton. Jack married Joyce Tiegs in July of that year. In 1949 Jack and Joyce returned to Brooks where they operated the family farm for 9 years. Jack then accepted a position with the Veterans Land Administration in Wetaskiwin and 2 years later became part of the staff of the new Farm Credit Corporation. Thereafter he worked with FCC in Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Wetaskiwin and Lethbridge where he was District Supervisor, until he and Joyce both retired in 1983. Jack was a proud Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Past President of the Lethbridge General Stewart Branch #4, and was Service Officer for both the Wetaskiwin and Lethbridge Branches for 16 years. He was also a Past Exalted Ruler of the Brooks Elks Lodge and a past member of the Masonic Order #63, Brooks. He was long time member of the Henderson Lake Golf Club and enjoyed the Senior’s Bowling Group. Jack took quiet comfort in his spirituality and in his church. Jack will be loved and missed, but also honoured and remembered by those whose lives he touched. Besides Joyce, his loving wife of 59 years and sweetheart for 66 years, Jack is survived by his daughter Barbara (B.J) Billings of Red Deer, AB and his son Brian Shackleton of Toronto, Ont; his very special granddaughters, Susann (Peter) Zloty and Teri (Adlai) Majer and 3 great grandchildren: Jackson, Benjamin and Grace; 1 brother Mick (Mary) Shackleton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families, and countless friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents: Ken and Christina Shackleton; sister Hilda Morrison and brother George Shackleton. Friends and Family are invited to pay their respects between 7:00PM and 8:00PM, on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 St. S., Lethbridge. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 – 15 Ave S., Lethbridge, with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating. Inurnment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Field of Honour.
