Royer – George Maxwell Royer of Brooks, beloved brother and uncle, passed peacefully in his home at Sunrise Gardens, Brooks on Sunday, December 28th, 2014, at the age of 81 years. Max was born in Bassano to Jehu and June Royer on November 12th, 1933. He was a 5th son followed by two sisters and grew up happily on the family farm in Gem. Max was a quiet and reserved child. He and his family loved to play games and the competition this involved. A deck of cards was never far away and many happy hours were spent playing around the table. In his teen years Max enjoyed hunting and fishing, and came home over the years to enjoy those sports with his family. His early education began in Gem and continuing with studies at SAIT, University of Alberta (Engineering) and then on to further education at Kingston University and University of Toronto. From there Max began his employment with the Federal Government as a scientist. He remained a quiet and reserved gentleman, who throughout the years was always studious, kind and caring and ambitious. Max was never married and resided in Nepean, Ottawa, Ontario where he built a beautiful home, lovingly tended to his extensive flower and vegetable gardens, enjoyed his library, music, all sports on TV, especially the routing for the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Blue Jays and avidly supported all of the Olympic games via television. Max loved curling both playing the game and watching it. He was predeceased by his parents Jehu and June and his brothers, Phillip and David. Max is survived by his brothers, Don (Elaine) of Edmonton and Curtis (Dorie) of Medicine Hat; sisters, Kay Goudie of Brooks and Betty (Arnie) Lerch of Wetaskiwin; sister-in-law Joan Royer of Comox, BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. A special thank you to Anne Massey for the special care that was provided, and also to the doctors and staff at Sunrise Gardens who cared for Max.
