NESBITT—Lanie Nesbitt passed away with her family at her side on Saturday, March 2, 2024 after a short battle with cancer. She was 66.
She leaves to mourn her husband Jamie; son Christopher and his wife Tosca and their children Zoe and Adalyn of Calgary; daughter Kate Moore and her husband Chase and their children Cade, Luke and Robin, also of Calgary and a son Sean of Brooks and his daughter Alita; sister Leeanne Rousson and her husband Randy of Okotoks, her father John Russell of Brooks, an uncle and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Cynthia.
She was born in Calgary on September 9, 1957 and lived in several towns in Alberta while her father served in the RCMP. She graduated from George McDougall High School in Airdrie and later moved to Calgary.
She enjoyed weekends at her grandparents Bev and Lucille Nelson’s cottage at Kinbrook Island Park and it was during one of these trips she met her future husband. They were married on June 28, 1980.
Over the years she most enjoyed raising her kids at the lake and taking them on several vacations. At the top of the list was taking the kids to hockey and watching all three play the sport over the years. She was very proud of her children.
She was grateful to the Brooks Handicraft Guild where she learned to quilt. She spent many enjoyable hours quilting.
She was also a successful businesswoman and started various businesses over the years culminating in a successful tax office and bookkeeping service. She was always happy to guide her clients through the Canadian tax jungle and was especially pleased when she could provide them with a refund or positive end to any tax woes.
She very much enjoyed time spent with her husband at their home in Gilbert, Arizona. Golf with her husband and outings with her friends were her favorite times there and especially Friday night dinner with the gang.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mari-Lynn Thomson and the doctors, nurses and staff on unit 1A at the Brooks Health Centre for their exemplary care.
Thank you to those who sent kind messages of encouragement and best wishes. She was happy to hear from you all.
Her family will gather privately to share memories and celebrate her life.

Cremation conducted by Smith Funeral Home.
