Hjorth – With great sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Harry Knud Hjorth was born at Grace Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on October 20, 1931, to Marius and Jensine Hjorth. He died on January 9, 2024 at the age of 92, after a short stay in Brooks Hospital. Harry was at peace when he joined his Lord and Savior. Harry lived in Standard, Alberta until 1938, when the Hjorth family moved to make their home in Tilley. He started his education at Renfrew School, before moving on to Tilley School and the Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute in Camrose, Alberta. Harry met Dagny Jensen at Bible School and three years later they were married at Bethany Lutheran Church in Dickson, Alberta on August 27, 1955. They built their home and farm together in Tilley, and it was here that they raised their three children as faithful members of Bethany Lutheran Church. In 1977, after levelling his own farmland, Harry followed his passion and started his own business; H&D Landlevelling brought him many years of happiness and fulfillment. Harry made numerous lifelong friends in Tilley, Brooks, and the surrounding area through his business, as well as various community and church events. Faith and family were always Harry’s priorities and some of his fondest memories were trips he and Dagny took with their children and grandchildren. Harry considered himself blessed to live on the farm until his passing. Over his 92 years, Harry touched the lives of everyone he interacted with. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, humble and gentle spirit, strength of character, generosity, and his deep love of family and friends. The way he lived his life and the example he provided to his family embodied his strong faith in our Lord and Saviour. Harry is now in his heavenly home, joining his parents, brother Niels, and numerous extended family members. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dagny, his children Dallas Hjorth, Sheryl-Lynn Weir, and Shelly-Ann (Harley) Read, and his adored grandchildren Brandon Weir, Nathan Weir, Cassidy Read, and Carson Read. His love for his family can only be equaled by their love of him. He will be dearly missed, and our memories of him will be our comfort. The family welcomes you to attend Harry’s Funeral Service and Celebration of Life, which will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 9 at the Brooks Evangelical Free Church; Reverend Jon Chalmers and Pastor Garth Everett officiating. Harry will be laid to rest in a private family burial at Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery in Tilley. Should you wish, in memory of Harry, please consider a donation to a child focused charity such as Compassion Canada or World Vision.
