Nannt – In Loving Memory of Ella Nannt (September 11, 1927 – January 25, 2024)

Ella Nannt (nee Hildebrandt) of Rolling Hills, Alberta beloved wife of the late Heinrich (Henry) Nannt passed away on January 25th, 2024, at the age of 96. Ella was born on September 11th, 1927, in Borodino, Bessarabia, Romania, to Johanna and Christian Hildebrant. At a young age, Ella and her family were forced to flee their home in Borodino, eventually arriving in Germany in 1945. It was in Sassmar, West Germany where Ella was reacquainted with other Borodino residents, one being her husband, Henry. Ella and Henry married on February 3rd, 1951. They immigrated to Canada in 1957 with two young children, where they settled in the Lethbridge area. With two more children born in Canada, their family was complete. Henry and Ella’s dream of farming brought them to Rolling Hills in 1965, purchasing their homestead in 1966. Ella loved to garden, cultivating both an impressive vegetable garden and the most beautiful array of flowers. Her dedication to gardening earned her the esteemed County of Newell Beautification Award. Together with Henry, she extended this passion to the Lutheran Church, tending to the flower bed for many years. Ella loved her family and spoiled them with her delicious German dishes and wonderful baked goods; her home was always filled with mouthwatering aromas. Ella and Henry’s early retirement provided them the opportunity to enjoy numerous bus trips, warm destination holidays, and trips to Europe. Summers were dedicated to creating cherished memories with family, taking their grandchildren camping, often to their favorite spot in Radium, BC. The grandkids were treated to more of their Oma’s delicious cooking on the camping trips; a favorite being pancake breakfast that no one else could repeat. Ella is predeceased by her husband Heinrich, her parents and two brothers. She will be fondly remembered by her children, Fred (Irene), Karin (Alfred), Rolf (Kathy), and Loretta (Rod); grandchildren Rudi (Chantelle), Ericka (Jeremy), Adam (Hildegunn), Kyle, Meghan, Aidan, Gillian (Bo), and Mattias; eight great grandchildren as well, a very dear friend who was like a sister to her, Elfriede Schuett. A Family service will be held. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Ella, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Brooks and District Health Foundation for Long Term Care, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta, T1R 1B3.
