Dietz, Alfred (Alf) passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1947 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan to Tony and Veronica (Moser) Dietz of Superb, SK., the sixth child out of seven children. Alf loved to play baseball, hockey and curling in his younger years, and could be seen cheering his children and grandchildren in their many activities. Alf was an avid Toronto Blue Jays baseball fan and tried to never miss a game, he loved watching games with his wife. Alf enjoyed fishing and hunting for Elk, Moose and White Tail Deer; especially with his son and grandsons. He would cheer on his beloved Edmonton Oilers and never missed an opportunity to catch a curling match on TV. Alf was married to the love of his life, his partner, and the other half of his soul, “his ride or die” Beatrice (Cotton) Dietz for close to 55 years. They were married May 4, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brooks Alberta and had three children, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, for now! Lorraine (Rex Porath) of Jefferson, South Dakota, Heather (Jeff) and their son Cotton, Brittni (Raf) Herrera) and son Apollo, Meghan Porath, Kately Porath, Taraly Dietz of Bassano, AB, Shellbea (Stephan Wood) and their children Addison, Scott, Kayden and Moriah, Shane (Kim) Dietz of Frobisher, Dakota Dietz, Taylor Dietz and her daughter Riley, Kayla (Eric) and their daughter Oaklynn and Sadie. He was the owner and operator of Easy Way Oilfield Maintenance until his health forced him to move on to a less labor-intensive job. He operated farm equipment and implements for Bassano Growers where he became great friends with Tiesh Hironaka and later drove Potato Truck for Tiesh and Bassano Growers. These were the jobs Alf most enjoyed. His amazing sense of humour and ease with people made him a favorite with his customers as the night shift cab driver for City Cab in Brooks, Alberta. Although his health was not the best his active mind and quick wit were always on point and his smile and laugh were always strong. The family would like to send a very special thank you to the following people and organizations; Brooks Paramedics, for always taking amazing care of Alf and prioritizing his comfort and care, Brooks Home Care, who took impeccable care of Alf; he loved his “tub bath” as they treated him with such love and kindness. Big shout out to Ken Hironaka, kindhearted and honorable and our neighbors who are beautiful, kind, caring and thoughtful who never failed to “check in” on Alf and Bea. Numerous friends and family members for the love and kindness for many years. Amazing care provided by the Medicine Hat Hospital, Medical teams and wards. Donations can be made to Brooks Paramedics, Brooks Home Care in the name of Alfred Dietz. We, Alf’s family have such appreciation for these teams who worked like guardian angels for Alf. Thom’s Funeral Home is in care of cremation.
