Bildersheim – Agnes Bildersheim of Brooks, wife of the late Joe Bildersheim, passed away peacefully in Brooks, on December 9th, 2019 at the age of 92 years. Born in Gara, Hungary on May 12th, 1927 to Mike and Amelia Pekanov. At 10 years old they moved to Canada, first to Lethbridge then settling in the Taber area and growing up there with her sisters Matilda, Margaret and Emma. Agnes often talked of those early years remembering joyous and happy times with friends and family, socializing, doing crafts, making feather quilts and pillows and working in the fields. Agnes married the love of her life Joe in 1944. They moved to Brooks in 1947, where they raised five children Peggy, Pat, Bill, Judy and Bob. She had a big garden on the farm, always busy growing, picking canning and storing veggies in a root cellar so the family could have vegetables all winter long. Agnes loved to cook, if you didn’t have at least three servings at her meals she thought something was wrong with you. Agnes was well known for her annual traditional branding feasts. People came for the home grown fried chicken, cabbage rolls, roasts with all the fixings and fabulous desserts. She passed her love of baking and gardening onto her kids and grandchildren, always ready with tips and pointers when ever asked. Other pastimes were hosting parties in her big country kitchen, watching all the kids having a great time playing, card games, word puzzles and especially bingo. Agnes and Joe moved into Brooks in 1985, where Agnes continued to raise a large garden, beautiful yard full of flowers and fruit trees. She loved to have visitors and was a wonderful host. She could speak three languages, her smile and laugh were wonderful and will be truly missed. She is survived by her sisters, Margret Konz and Emma Pekanov; her children Pat Capenado (Dwayne-deceased), Bill Bildersheim (Betty-Lou), Judy Moser (Clinton) and Bob Bildersheim (Gay); grandchildren: Carmen Hildebrandt (Dayne) and their children Tyler and Morgan; Kristi Good (Scott) and their children Carsyn and Chelsea; Travis Moser and his children Austyn and Makenzee; Tanya Barkley (Jason) and their children Hayden and Hayley; Brandi Bremner (Lawrence) and their children Brynn and Kaylee; Brendan Moser (Amy) and Michael Bildersheim. Mom was always the glue that held the family together. She will be forever missed. The family would like to thank the Brooks Health Centre for the wonderful care given to our mom (Agnes). Funeral Mass was Celebrated on Tuesday, December 17th at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Marino Infante Celebrant. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Agnes, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Brooks and District Health Foundation for Palliative Care, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1B4.
