    Bonora – Jimmy Mario Peter Bonora, beloved husband of Karen Bonora, passed away in Calgary surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024 at the age of 63. He was born in Lethbridge on February 26th, 1961 to Mario & Rosi Bonora. He graduated from BCHS in 1979. He then followed in his father’s footsteps and apprenticed to be an electrician, later becoming a Master Electrician. Working with his Dad and brother, and eventually his son, in the family business, Mario’s Electric Ltd. for 40 plus years. Jim married the love of his life, Karen Woods in 1985. In 1989 they were blessed with the arrival of their first child, Vanessa followed by their son Eric in 1991. Jim was devoted to his family and very proud of his children. His love and commitment will be a source of strength and inspiration. He was so proud to warmly welcome Rachel to his family when she married Eric in 2022. Jim never missed any family occasion. He was at every holiday celebration and celebration without a holiday with the Bonoras, Smiths, Santonis and Zanonis. Jim had a great love for sports. He played basketball and football in school. He played fastball with the JoAnn Trucking Juniors and slo-pitch with the Brooks Hotel Rebels. Jim curled in numerous leagues and enjoyed skiing. He absolutely loved golfing and everyone knew where Jim could be found on Sunday mornings. He enjoyed watching all sports including Nascar. Jim was a devoted fan of the Brooks Bandits. Jim wanted to give back to his community, so he became a volunteer firefighter in 1991. Jim was proud to be part of the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department family. He was proudly a deputy chief and captain. Jim’s legacy as a firefighter trainer, mentor, and rescuer will forever shine through the countless lives he touched. His dedication to saving others and imparting knowledge leaves an enduring impact on the firefighting community. Jim is survived by his wife, Karen, his children, Vanessa and Eric (Rachel), his dad, Mario, his siblings, Doris (Lorne), Ron (Pam), Lisa (Carl), his brother-in-law, Michael (Jayne), his sister in law, Barb (Shawn), and his numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in Jim’s heart. Jim is predeceased by his mom, Rosi, his step-mom, Addy and his niece, Mia. Jim’s celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 13th, at 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. Reception to follow at Brooks Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cantara Safe House/Brooks Women’s Shelter, Box 1045, Brooks, Alberta   T1R 1C6.
