Wilson – It is with great sadness that the family of Rosalie Lucy Wilson announces her passing on April 21, 2024, at the Continuing Care Ward in Brooks Hospital. Rosalie was born to James and Lucy Scott in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, on August 7, 1934, and spent most of her childhood in Edmonton. After graduating from King Edward High School, she wanted to become a teacher. Circumstances being what they were, she felt that wasn’t possible so, instead, she went to work at Rutherford Library at the University of Alberta. She loved education and books, so it was a good fit. It was not long before her older brother introduced her to Robert (Bob) Wilson. He convinced her to marry him in 1954 and, after several moves, they settled in Brooks, Alberta in 1966 to raise their family. Rosalie loved being a homemaker. She took pride in calling herself the “chief cook and bottle washer” and she really was a phenomenal cook. Her many handwritten recipes will continue to be treasured. She also loved traveling and, though she did not go everywhere she wanted, she went to the UK, France and the far north of Canada. While she was a quiet soul, she made friends wherever she went. Rosalie was devoted to her faith throughout her life, and while university was not to be when she was younger, she received a diploma (honours) in Religious Education from St. Francis Xavier University in 2002. She facilitated RCIA (Right of Catholic Initiation of Adults) at St. Mary’s for many years. She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League, would sing in the funeral choir, and do whatever else was necessary. She never worried about receiving credit for her many selfless deeds. When Bob became active in the deaconate (“Deacon Bob”), Rosalie was always there to support him and, as we all know, keep him in line. Even when diagnosed with dementia, her faith was not shaken and she continued to be one of the most beautiful souls to ever grace this earth right up to the moment of her passing. She is now at peace. Rosalie was predeceased earlier this year by Deacon Bob and her beloved granddaughter and namesake, Sarah Rosalie Marie Gullberg. She is survived by her children Donald Wilson (Debra); Shannon Gullberg (“favourite son-in-law” Ed); Lance Wilson (Deborah) and Rosanne Wilson. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and so many others who loved her dearly. The family is eternally grateful for all the wonderful care provided to Rosalie by the staff at Continuing Care, particularly during the worst of Covid. Words cannot express our appreciation. The family also wants to acknowledge all those who visited mom at Continuing Care over the last number of years. She adored you all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 4th, at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Bryan Frank Celebrant. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery.
