    John Andrejcin February 18, 1931 – April 8, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of Johnny Andrejcin at his residence in Sunrise Gardens on Monday, April 8, 2024. In the weeks preceding his death, John was surrounded by family and friends, and voiced his enormous gratitude for the love, care and compassion he received. John was born on the homestead in Vidora, Saskatchewan, the third child and eldest son of five children born to Andrej (Andrew) and Evza Andrejcin (nee Kolar). John lost his mother to post-surgical pneumonia at the age of six, and then his father in a highway accident at the age of 17. He started work with the Canadian Pacific Railway becoming its youngest working foreman at the age of 14. After the death of his father and the auction of their family home, John and brother Mike followed the footsteps of his sister Anne, to the Medicine Hat/Brooks area where she had married and made her home. John married in 1953, and Debbie and Ken were born a few years later. Another marriage, and Mellanie joined the family. From the CPR, John moved into car sales and became a 35-year sales veteran and many time sales leader at Modern Auto, Beny’s GM Dealership in Brooks. Always seeking a new challenge and never satisfied to stay in one place, John expanded his horizons. Upholstering, ranching, working with horses, auction school and carpentry all crossed his horizon. John was a man of many talents and would say that he was a “jack of all trades but a master of none.” Despite his many transitions in life, one factor always remained a constant – his prevailing love of music. Self-taught and practicing constantly, John taught himself guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, violin, accordion, harmonica, dobro and some keyboard. His music was his Joy. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Evza and Andrew; brothers, Steve and Mike; sisters, Mary Ushey and Anne Ledene; nephews, Blain and Terry Andrejcin; daughter-in-law Betty Andrejcin and grandson, Jason MacRae. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane Adams and her daughters, Lorrie (Tony) Clizbe and Sandra Broesder; son Ken Andrejcin; daughter Debbie MacRae and daughter Mellanie Kopec. He also leaves to mourn many grand-children, Whitney (Jason) Mandel and Calvin Andrejcin (Ken’s), Jennifer (Clay) Webster and Nicole (Jay) Hochman (Debbie’s), Bryce and Brody Kopec (Mellanie’s) and seven great-grandchildren, as well as 4 Adams grand-children, Shane and Seth Broesder, Mark Clizbe, and Jessie Egger: 10 Adams great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. His stage might be empty, but his presence and his music will be in our hearts forever. Please join us for a Celebration of Johnny’s life on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Heritage Inn, 1217 – 2nd Street W, Brooks, Alberta. There will be a jam as part of the Celebration.
