Webber – It is with heavy hearts that the family of George Webber announces his passing on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020 at the Medicine Hat Hospital with his wife Mary and Granddaughter Tanya by his side at the age of 87 years. George was born in Loughor, Wales, UK on April 14th, 1933 to John Bowden (Jack) Webber and Rhoda Margaret (Nee) Bartlett. He had one brother Denzel (Don) Webber. George’s father passed in 1939, just before WW II broke out. George and his brother moved between Wales and London as their mother worked as a welder making fuel tanks for fighter planes. At the end of the war at age 13, his mother came to Canada as a war bride after marrying a Canadian soldier. They travelled on the last trip the Queen Mary made to North America as a troop carrier. The Queen Mary then returned to South Hampton, UK for an overhaul to become a proud luxury liner once again. Once they arrived in Halifax in September, 1946, they travelled to Vancouver by steam locomotive and lived there for 2 years. In 1948, when he was 15 years old, he visited his great aunt and uncle, Charles and Bess Harvey in Rolling Hills, Alberta and he decided to stay. He moved to Brooks in 1950 and worked at various jobs and was a member of the Reserve Army in Brooks. He met the love of his life Mary Skretting in Brooks and on November 10th, 1955 they were married and raised 3 children. George was quick-witted and a bit of a jokester and he was always very respectful of everyone. George was very involved with the Brooks community. He and his wife Mary were Cub Scout Leaders for numerous years. He was one of the founding members of the Brooks Stock Car Association. George had a passion for making walking sticks out of diamond willows and spent many hours carving them. He was a bit of a handy man and was mechanically inclined and he was a Jack of all trades but a master of none. George’s last work involved running a courier service and a hot shot service for Lakeside, up until the age of 75. His greatest love was his wife Mary and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always had a smile and a hug for everyone. His passing will leave a huge hole in everyone’s heart. George leaves behind his wife Mary, just 7 days short of their 65th wedding anniversary. His daughter Debbie (Bruce) Penner; son David (Theresa) Webber and son Dennis (Holly) Webber. He thought the world of his grandchildren, Tammy Penner, Travis (Shannon) Penner, Tyler (Kim) Penner, Dan (Tanya) Michon, Kyle (Sydney) Webber, Chase Webber and his girlfriend Shineese and her son Ryker, Brittany (Pete) Innis, Shyloh Webber, Delore (Hayley) Webber, Austin Webber and girlfriend Kassidy. His Great Grandchildren were a joy for him to watch grow and his days were made brighter when they came for a visit, Caleb, Layton, Luke, Kayden, Tristen, Jaxon, Tessa, Karigan, Rhett, Lhean and Reese. George also leaves behind his nephews, John (Kelly) Webber and Bob (Kim) Webber; sister-in-law Doreen Skretting and family, sister-in-law Nina Skretting and family and close family friend Irma Merkl plus extended family and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
