    Turgeon – Russel Joseph Laurence Turgeon of Brooks, beloved husband of Rosemary Turgeon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Thursday, August 1st, 2013 in Brooks at the age of 70 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Russel was born the ninth child to Rose and Laurence Turgeon in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on May 4th, 1943. Russel grew up in Medicine Hat and graduated from McCoy High School and married his high-school sweetheart Rosemary Smith on September 21st, 1963. Russel held many interesting jobs such as working in television as a weatherman and he was also known as ‘Captain Russ’ on a children’s show back in the ‘60’s. He was also an insurance agent, a banker, a political activist, a co-owner and salesman at Minor Ford in Brooks and a realtor for some years, until he finally became the owner/operator of the Brooks Mohawk/Husky for over twenty years, before he finally retired in 2005. Russel was an avid fisherman and he knew every good fishing spot in Lake Newell. He loved nothing more than getting in his boat with a buddy or one of his dogs, Spike or Roxy, and relaxing on the lake. Russ also loved having all of the family over for meals and visits. Russel is survived by Rosemary, his loving wife of 50 years; son Mark (Lisa) Turgeon; daughters Laurel (Stacey) Rice and Christy (Desmond) Brown; grandsons Rob, Tyler, Riley, Keeton, Nico and River, as well as his brothers and sisters Marguerite, Eleanor, Gerald, Jim, Denis, Kathy, Mary and Diane. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 7th at 2:00 PM from the Brooks United Church. Rev. George Edmonds officiating.
