SHANNON – It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Judith (Judy) Rae Shannon (Lewendon) on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Judy was born on April 29, 1949, in Calgary, Alberta and adopted as an infant by Edgar and June Lewendon of Brooks, Alberta.
On January 7, 1967, she married Richard Shannon – they welcomed their two children into the world, Julie and Cory.
Being raised in Brooks, Judy enjoyed her younger years at Kinbrook Island where June and Eddie had a cabin that was often filled with cousins and extended family. She loved the water and would take every opportunity to swim or boat even as an adult. She always said she “had a wonderful childhood!”.
Judy was a fierce athlete and loved playing school sports as a young person. As an adult she made lifelong friends curling and playing ladies fastball. Later in life, she was passionately involved in her grandkids’ sports. She was their biggest and loudest fan. Judy was also an avid card player. She loved playing cards with her grandkids and her friends at the Villa and Lodge.
Judy loved all elements of nature and wildlife. She always had a number of pets, even exotic ones. She had an unquenchable thirst for learning about the world around her and found beauty in everything that nature provides. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her well-manicured yard and colourful flower beds. Judy was a talented artist and loved to express her interests through art. Over her life she’d created an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, carvings, and woodwork. Her family takes great comfort in these lasting keepsakes of her.
Although her health was not always strong, her humour, quick wit, smile, and laughter remained strong. She loved to meet people and was always up for a visit, she made friends wherever she went. She was an incredibly proud grandmother and great-grandmother, always ready to show photos and share stories. Her family, including her daughter & son-in-law, Scott & Julie (Shannon) Tateson, son Cory Shannon, grandchildren, Kourtney (Tateson) Hiebert,Erin (Tateson) Stadnicki, Karmen Tateson, Archie Tateson, Austin Tateson, Stephanie Shannon and Cierra Shannon, and her great-grandchildren, Lyla and Henry Hiebert (Kourtney), Benton Weaver (Cierra) will remain forever grateful for her warm heart and her example of strength and resiliency.
The family would like to thank Judy’s friends, the Newbrook Lodge staff and Brooks Hospital staff for their kind words and support during this time. Judy’s celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
