Mr. George Senecal of Calgary, beloved husband of Lila (Houseman) Senecal, passed away peacefully in Calgary, November 19, 2022, at the age of 86 years. Born in Cereal, Alberta on August 25, 1936. At the age of six, moved with his parents Lionel and Gwen Senecal and Grandfather George Senecal to the One Tree Area near Brooks, in 1942. He often spoke proudly of how he met Lila at One Tree School, at the age of eight. Lila was five. He fell in love at first sight and had declared at that time that he would marry her one day. They did get married, September 5, 1959. George was an entrepreneur from a very early age. While on the farm in One Tree, he began trapping weasels and muskrats to sell the pelts for bounties and profit. He collected wild pheasant eggs from nests he searched out and brought them to the Brooks Pheasant Hatchery and earned enough money to purchase his first bicycle. This was the foundation of his business life, which he always tried to grow and improve. Later when he moved to Calgary, after graduating from high school, he worked for a number of companies, before he and friend, Bill Meyer, a co-worker at Hector Steel Co, purchased Modern Tool Ltd., in 1964. His partners left for other ventures or retired, but Modern Tool was George’s pride and joy for the rest of his life, second only to his family. George was predeceased by his parents Lionel and Gwendolyn (Bunney) Senecal, and his younger brother Ron. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years Lila; three sons, Mark, Noel (Debbie) and Curtis; six grandchildren, Derrick (Bobbie), Ryan (Miranda), Sydni, McKenna (Chase), Tanner and Kori; nine great grandchildren, Marius, Lucian, Phoenix, Aries, Kristina, Connar, Tiberius, Elijah and Emmitt; brother Aza; sister-in-law Linda Senecal and their children, Shonna, Jason, Sandy, Shane and Joshua; many great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law David Houseman; sister-in-law Dory (Houseman) Evans and many cousins of the Senecal, Bunney, Houseman, Bender and extended families. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 25 at 2:00 PM from the Heritage Inn and Convention Centre. Pastor Garth Everett officiating. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery.
