    Safronovich – Steve Louis Safronovich passed away peacefully in the Brooks Hospital on February 21, 2016. Steve was born October 31, 1932 in Mulhurst, Ab. He worked very hard on the family farm in Buck Creek before pursuing a successful career in the Oilpatch. With dedication and a strong work ethic he quickly worked his way up the ladder to become a driller at 16 and eventually became a Tool Push for Cactus Drilling – Rig #4. He then went on to be a consultant for Empire State before starting his first company Zippy Cat Service and followed by SLS Resources Ltd. He was involved with the initial formation of Midco (Midfield). His last position was Vice-President of Operations for Bonterra Energy, before retiring at the age of 70. Steve and Jean relocated to Brooks in 1963 where they raised their four children. He contributed to numerous sporting clubs and events, and was very involved in the community, including serving as councilman for three years, a founding member of the Big Country Oilmen’s Association (BCOA), and a long-time member of both the Brooks Elks Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. Steve’s passions in life were baseball, golfing, curling, bowling, playing cards and being a faithful Bandit Fan. He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen, brothers Mike, Harry and sister Mary Kazoleas, brothers-in-law Steve Axani and Fred Sharrun, sisters-in-law Donna and Maureen, parents-in-law George and Winnifred Hunter, in-laws Tom Hunter, Alex Hunter, Darlene, Hunter, Lorraine Hunter. Steve will be dearly missed by his wife Jean, and children Cathy Safronovich of Brooks; Colleen (Rod) Glas of Vauxhall; Cheryl (Darren) Cockerill and their children Janessa, Tanelle, Draya, Camdyn all of Brooks; Stephen (Melanie) Safronovich and their children Morgan and Tyler all of Brooks; brothers Joe, John (Virginia), Stan (Hetty); sisters Doreen Axani, Bernice (Hank) Sharrun, Sylvia (Doug) Culshaw; sisters in-law Pearl and Violet; in-laws Bill Hunter, Jim (Sharron) Hunter, Margie (Albert) Barrie, Ruth Hunter, Grace Hanson and Carol Hunter and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was a great friend to many and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 29th at 2:00 PM from Trinity Lutheran Church, Brooks, Ab. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Steve, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Brooks and District Health Foundation, for “Let’s Make DIALYSIS a REALITY”, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3. .
