    Rempel – Lloyd James Rempel of Brooks, beloved husband of Betty Rempel, passed away in Brooks on Friday, January 19th, 2024 at the age of 85 years. Lloyd was born on March 1st, 1938 in Borden, Saskatchewan, the oldest son of George and Lucie May Rempel. He grew up on the farm in Patricia, until 1948 when the family moved into Brooks. Lloyd completed 9th grade in school then it was necessary for him to go to work to help support his younger siblings. He married Betty Ann Friars while working in Strathmore, Alberta and they were married on June 28th, 1969 in Moose-jaw, Saskatchewan. Lloyd would run would work with livestock during the summer months and pick up other work during the winter. He worked for Nowsco Well Service, eventually running a bulk plant, then moved on to McColman Trucking and Newcom, until his retirement in 2014. Lloyd enjoyed camping trips, fishing, leatherwork and curled in his youth. He cherished the time he spent with his kids and grandkids. He was a quiet, gentle and friendly man who didn’t say much. Those who were fortunate enough to speak to Lloyd knew that any words he did say were wise and worth listening to. He was predeceased by his parents George and Lucie Rempel, an infant sister, Nancy and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty; children, Nancy Byrd and her husband Kevin and Leonard Rempel; grandchildren, Dylan, Ellen and Alex Byrd; siblings, Rena Urban, Nola Rempel and Gib Rempel and his wife Shirley and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, February 6th at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel. Luncheon to follow from Heritage Inn and Convention Centre.
