PLUMER – Kathryn Margaret Plumer, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at home, in the arms of her family on June 2, 2007.
Kathy was born October 29, 1923, eldest daughter of pioneer ranchers George and Anne Armstrong of Cypress Hills. Her early years were spent polishing her skills as a “fair ranch hand,” to quote her husband Ben. Education was taken at home on the ranch in Irvine, high school at St. Theresa’s Academy in Medicine Hat, and she took her teaching certificate in Calgary. Kathryn married Ben Erwin Plumer on July 7, 1947, in Bassano, Alberta. They purchased the home ranch in 1951. Kathryn and Ben were blessed with eight children, whom she mentored, cherished, chastised as necessary, and loved unconditionally all the days of her life.
She is survived by her brother Robert Armstrong (Verna), sister Betty Anne Burrows (Ralph), sister-in-law Shirley Armstrong (Arnold); son-in-law Svend Rasmussen (Georganne), sons Ben (Indira), Jim, Dan (Candyce) Plumer; and daughters Janet Reid (Wallace), Florence Bodell (Lorne), Lois Christman (Dale), and Mary Hertz (Rick). She is survived by her 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: Jennifer Coughlin, Carolyn Henrickson (Albert) with children Illysa and Harvey, Brent Rasmussen (Kelly) and children Jennifer and Hailey, Robert Sohan (Pawan), Marie Baron (Matt), Sarah, Katherine, and Benjamin Plumer, Pam Plumer (Quinton Williams), Lee Reid (Jody) and children Torey, Carsen and Maddison, Nancy, Donna, Tom and Karen Reid, Laura, Rodney, Scott, and Jeffrey Bodell, Buck (Sharon) Christman, Brad (Crystal) Christman, Daniel, Tyson and Brandon Hertz, Jesse and Joshua Plumer, and her very special furry friend, Buster.
Kathryn is predeceased by her husband Ben, daughter Georganne Rasmussen, granddaughter Terri Lynne Reid, son-in-law Wallace Reid, grandson Ben Plumer, daughter-in-law Camille Plumer, and her brothers Peter and Arnold Armstrong.
Kathryn was laid to rest at a private family internment at the Bassano Cemetery on Sunday, June 3, 2007, with Pastor Floyd Cotton officiating and members of the Bethel Mennonite Church choir singing.
