    PETERSEN – Maria Elizabeth Petersen nee VanderLinden, better known as “Betty,” passed away on November 14, 2005 in the Lacombe Union Hospital after suffering a stroke. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, all of his brothers and sisters as well as her own and one grandchild. She leaves to carry on her heritage a daughter, Connie (Don) Rysavy of Saskatoon (SK), two sons, David Petersen of Chilliwack, B.C., and Lorne (Trudy) Petersen of Red Deer, AB. Also she leaves 17 grand children and 15 great-grandchildren. Betty was born on May 3, 1917 on a homestead in the Jenner district where she also grew up. In the late 30’s she spent a short period of time employed in Calgary. Shortly there after she and her husband-to-be became interested in each other. On February 14, 1942 Betty and (Jens) Carl (Askel) were married and resided in the Antelope district on the farm till they moved to Lacombe, AB to farm in 1952. Betty loved the farm life helping her husband with seeding and harvest as well as growing a garden. She had a great love for scenery and travel so had visited a childhood pen pal in Australia and on two occasions traveled to Holland to visit family and to Denmark to visit her husband’s family. We are grateful mother was able to live on her own and care for herself right up to her passing.
