Perry – Mr. Bertram “Bert” Beckwith Perry of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Jean Perry, passed away in Calgary on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at the age of 78 years. Bert was born in Coronation April 30th, 1938 to Bert and Stella Perry. At the age of 4 his parents bought the store in Scandia and they made that their home. Bert attended the old Jenny Lind School situated 2 1/2 miles south of Scandia for grades one to four and then the new Jenny Lind School in Scandia until he moved to Red Deer, attending Lindsey Thurber High to finish his education. Bert moved back to Scandia in 1956, when his parents gave him a job of collecting bills for the store. His father bought a farm on the SE 22 15 15 W4 and the east 1/2 of SW 22 15 15 east of Scandia in 1958 and Bert starting farming the land for him. He married Jean Friars December 5th, 1959, and they lived above the store in Scandia in one of the apartments until they moved to the farm in 1960. In 1960, they were blessed with their first son Darcy, Randy in 1962 and Jeff in 1964. As well as farming Bert owned a gravel truck which he contracted to Hatco Oilfield Services from 1979 – 1981. So that along with the farming operation kept him very busy. Bert and Jean farmed until 1997, when they sold the family farm to Randy, and they retired to Medicine Hat. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2009. Bert and Jean enjoyed camping and finding new spots to explore, road trips, and family get togethers. Bert enjoyed his weekly coffee with Hugh and Norma, taking drives just to see what was changing around the country side, and coming to the farm to enjoy just visiting and not working. Jean passed away August 2, 2014 and dad continued to live in their home until his passing. Bert was predeceased by his loving spouse and best friend Jean; sons Darcy and Jeff; his mom and dad Bert and Stella and their grandson-in-law Jerry Nosterud. Bert is survived by his son Randy (Shirley); grandchildren, Shauna (Troy), Tim (Lindsay), Stacey (Martin), Kathy (Tim), Michael (Mandy), TJ (Lori) and Justin; 16 great grandchildren; brother Bill (Arlene); brothers-in-law, Gordon (Ruby), Arnold and Jack (Sharon); sisters-in-law Ethel (Reuben), Betty (Lloyd) and Linda (Wayne); daughters-in-law Kathy and Michelle and numerous nieces and nephews.
