Peltzer – Jean Elaine Peltzer, passed away on April 1st, 2022, after a brief stay in the Brooks Hospital. She had been suffering memory loss and declining health in recent years. Jean was born in Bowmanville, Ontario on August 19th, 1933, to Violet (Stewart) and David “Sheldon” Moffat. She was the youngest of three children, her older siblings: Bill and Dawn. She grew up on the Moffat family farm near Orono, Ontario. Jean graduated from the Orono High School in 1952. In September of 1952 she was accepted to the Peterborough Civic Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1955 and traveled to Stockton, California to practice nursing. Jean later returned to the Peterborough Hospital, where she became a head nurse. While working at the hospital she became great friends with one of the nurses, Joan Rogers. Joan met Harold Peltzer, Rudy’s brother, who was working at General Electric in Peterborough, and they were soon married. Joan and Harold travelled back to Duchess, Alberta to visit Harold’s family. They brought Jean along on their trip and introduced Rudy to Jean. After writing many letters, Rudy and Jean courted and were then married on October 15th, 1966. Their son David was born on December 10th, 1969. After moving from Ontario to the farm in Duchess, Jean cared for her family and farmyard and was an amazing homemaker. She always could welcome unexpected visitors at a moment’s notice with a delicious meal. Jean was renowned for her famous branding pies! She also loved helping with the farm chores. I remember Mom helping and Dad throw loads of square bales on the old 1-ton truck to feed the cows. I also remember me sitting with mom at a young age in the feed truck learning how to count how many axe swings it took for Dad to chop the water hole. She was very involved with the farm until they acquired a hired man to help with the farm responsibilities. This gave Mom more time to be involved with the Lutheran Church ladies and our community. Jean was always willing to volunteer when needed. She was a great driving force telling me to always “do your best” in pursuing my education, competing in 4-H and sports. In July 1993, Kathlyn and I were married and started farming. It took until the fall of 1993 for Jean to tell Rudy “It’s time for us to go to town”! They then decided to retire to Brooks and bought a house where she met many new friends. With the company of her friends, new and old, she enjoyed needle point, going to garage sales to purchase fabric for quilting, Aqua-size (which was strange because she was not very fond of water) as well as quilting in both Brooks and Duchess. Jean put miles of thread through the old Singer sewing machine sewing quilt blocks together. Mom and Dad’s basement quickly became a “quilting warehouse” as she hosted many quilting bees with the ladies. She gifted many of her creations to family and friends throughout the years. Jean was very proud of her family and especially her two granddaughters Bryanne and Lyndsey. When the girls were little, in true Jean fashion, she taught them how to make little doll quilts. Jean loved to watch the girls excel in all their activities which included showing cattle and horses, playing sports (especially volleyball) and their passion for the farm. Jean will always be remembered as a kindhearted, caring, and hardworking lady who had a great dry sense of humor. We love you and will miss you always and will keep the memories of you near and dear to our hearts. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Sheldon and Violet Moffat; brother William Moffat; sister Dawn Finnie and niece Janice Finnie. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Rudolph Peltzer; son David (Kathlyn) Peltzer; grandchildren Bryanne Peltzer and Lyndsey Peltzer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 13th, 2022 at 1:30 PM. Interment to follow at Duchess Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly in Jean Peltzer’s honor to Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta, 10430 – 61 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta   T6H 2J3.
