    NYGAARD – Erling George Nygaard, beloved husband and best friend of Christina, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side at Orchard Manor on March 28th, 2004 at the age of 89 years. He was born in Pollockville, Alberta on February 16th, 1915. The family moved to Canyon, British Columbia in 1925 and following the death of his mother, he returned to Pollockville to reside with close friends “the Keyte’s” who were very good to him. Erling attended school in both Canyon and Pollockville to Grade Eight when due to circumstances and conditions of the time; he started working at Keyte’s. In 1939 he moved on to make his own way in the world working at various farm related jobs, threshing being his favorite. Through these years he courted Christina Cameron and they were married on July 6th, 1946 in Calgary. They made their home in Rolling Hills for 55 years. Erling did various jobs until purchasing his farm in 1954 where they raised their family. Even after retiring, Erling spent many enjoyable hours helping Lee on the farm. In June of 2001 due to health reasons, they moved to Orchard Manor which became their second home. Besides his farming, Erling was active in all aspects of the Rolling Hills Community including the United Church Board, the Cemetery Board and the 4-H Beef Club. He was dedicated to his family, his church, his love of farming and 4-H which was an important part of his life. Erling will be lovingly remembered for his patience and for always being able to make time for the things important to him. He was predeceased by his parents John and Constance, 4 brothers Conrad, John, Alfred and Walter and 2 sisters Emily and Clara and nieces and nephews. Erling is survived by his loving family, wife Chris of Brooks; daughter Joyce Lanz and her husband Vern and sons Trevor, Curtis and Darren; son Lee and his wife Sherrie and sons Cory and Samuel; 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Margaret Marshall, Mary (Willie) Hearn and Gertrude Nygaard; 3 brothers Carl (Eileen), Ralph (Judy) and Norris (Phyllis); 3 sisters-in-law Elsie Nygaard, Ruby Nygaard and Nancy Rooke and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 1st from the Rolling Hills Community Centre. Rev. Arij Langstraat officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are all Erling’s friends, neighbors and 4-H associates. Active pallbearers are Dean Kramer, Brad Rooke, Trevor Lanz, Curtis Lanz, Darren Lanz and Cory Pearson. In memory of Erling, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made either Rolling Hills United Church Memorial Fund, Rolling Hills Community Centre Memorial Fund or charity of choice.
