1924 – 2007
Irmgard “Irma” Elisabeth Kallen of Lethbridge, formerly of Vauxhall, beloved wife of the late Adam Kallen, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2007 at the age of 82 years.
Irma is survived by her children and grandchildren; Elizabeth “Liz“ (Steve) Alexander of Ladner, B.C. and children Lisa and Christopher (Lissa); Peter (Leslie) Kallen of Strathmore and
children Greg (Patina), Rebecca and Christine; Marianne (Pete) Brouwer of Diamond City and children Shannon (Alex) Desjardins, Sheryl (Sean) Tregillus and Craig Brouwer; Irma Kallen of Lethbridge and children Angela and Andrea (Rick) Green; Hubert (Karen) Kallen of Tilley and children Troy (Joanne), Charmaine (Eyrin) Nelson, Teresa (Leyton) Clark and Mark Johnston; Carl (Wendy) Kallen of Vauxhall and children Dylan, Luke and Katelyn; Tony Kallen of Parksville, B.C. and children Jordan (Megan) and Leah (James); Kathy Young Pine of Lethbridge and children Vanessa and Derrick; beloved great grandchildren Angelo, Raegan, Kendra, Chloey, Alexandra, Trey, Jaxson and Jasmyn; brothers Reverend Hubert Janssen, Reverend Freidrich “Fritz” Janssen, sisters Marianne Janssen and Liesel Janssen of Kevelaer, Germany; brother-in-law Karl Heinz (Marianne) Kallen of Kaarst, sisters-in-law Maria (Karl) Hoff of Viersen and Theresa Meyer of Schiefbahn, all of Germany and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Irma was predeceased by her husband Adam, September 2006, parents Franziska and Hubert Janssen, father and mother-in-law Peter and Katharina, brother Joseph Janssen and brother-in-law Willy Meyer, infant daughter Theresa, July 1959 and grandson Dustan Kallen, September 1998.
Irma was born June 3, 1924 in Winnekendonk, Germany. She married Adam Kallen in 1948 and immigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s.
They worked on various farms in Southern Alberta until purchasing their own farm at Vauxhall in 1963. She was active in the church and in the farm business. In 1996 they retired to their home in the Town of Vauxhall until 2005, when they moved to Martha’s House in Lethbridge where they resided until their passing. Irma had a passion for music and dance and was renowned for her culinary skills and crafts; particularly for her apple slices rouladen and butter cream tortes. She especially enjoyed participating in the bench fairs in Vauxhall. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
The Funeral Mass was concelebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Vauxhall on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Mariusz Sztuk SDS and Reverend Hubert Janssen, Celebrants.
