Herman – In loving memory of Orville Owen Herman, July 16, 1919 – April 3, 2020.  He passed away peacefully at the age of 100.  He will be forever loved and remembered as a father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.  Orville was born July 16, 1919, in Lomond, Alberta to Leo and Wihelmine Herman. He was the second of 3 children.  Orville and his 2 sisters grew up on the farm that their parents homesteaded.  In 1938 at the age of 19, Orville went to SAIT and in 1940, he continued his schooling in Medicine Hat studying Sheet Metal work.  Orville was then employed at an Airplane Factory in Montreal, where he worked for a year.  In the fall of 1941, he joined the Air Force where he rebuilt airplanes and was employed as an Airplane Mechanic.  He was in the Air Force until the war ended in 1945.  During the war Orville was stationed in Ontario.  It was while stationed in Ontario that he met and fell in love with his wife Margaret.  They were married Oct. 6, 1945 and were married 49 years.  After they were married, they moved to the home farm in Alberta and his parents retired to Calgary.  They farmed and started their family of 5 until Orville started looking at irrigated land around Rolling Hills.  It was at this time that he was offered a job with Farm Credit and he then decided it was the best fit for him and his family.  The family moved to Brooks in 1962 and he worked in the Brooks area until he was transferred to Vegreville in 1973.  There he made some great friends and took up golf and curling, both were sports that he enjoyed well into his 90’s. He worked for FCC, until retired in 1984, and Orville and Margaret moved back to Brooks.  Orville loved fishing and hunting and these were some of his fondest memories.  He became an avid gardener after retirement, and took great pride in his tea roses.  After Margaret passed away in 1992 he eventually moved into the Park Hilton and spent many happy years.  Orville was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Axford), a grandson Rodney Tuinder, both of his parents and both sisters Hazel Beagle and Lillan Herman.  He is survived by his 5 children, Cheryl (Jerry ) Tuinder, Robert (Ann) Herman, Beth (Peter) Dyck, Kathy (Richard) Gette, David (Pauline) Herman; 10 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.  Orville was very fortunate to have been surrounded by a loving family and a score of good friends over the years.  He enjoyed a healthy life until the last 2 years, which took their toll.  He will be missed but will live forever in our hearts.  A Family Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 2:00 PM from Smith Memorial Chapel.  Rev. Esther Crews officiating.  Interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Orville, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, Alberta   T1J 4K7.
