HAWN – Shirley Ann Hawn passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022 at the age of 88 in Bassano, Alberta. Shirley was born on July 10, 1934 in Bassano, Alberta to Chester and Eunice Edwards. She graduated as a Nurse’s Aid in 1953 and worked at Bassano Hospital until her retirement.

She had a way of making people laugh with one of her ‘special jokes’ and she always left a little sparkle wherever she went. She had many nicknames but the most used was probably Squirrels. She was small but mighty and would say that dynamite comes in small packages. She was know to many as GG and was everyone’s gramma.

She babysat for many families and not only watched and loved the children but they would come home to a clean house, laundry done and cookies baked. She loved playing Yahtzee and card games. She was passionate about hockey and was always entertaining at games where she cheered her team on with great enthusiasm.

She married Gordon Hawn in 1955 and they had four daughters. She lived most of her life in Bassano but also resided in Medicine Hat for a short time. She also lived in Duchess for several years, where many school kids came with her great grandchildren for cookies and a visit. She had a way of making anyplace she lived a loving welcoming home.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Debbie Eckert, Barb Wells, Wendy Powers and Bev McArthur. Three son in laws Dan Eckert, Pat Powers and Kevin McArthur. Five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, four sisters one brother and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, her parents, her son in law Bill Wells, a great grandson Gage Hawn as well as four brothers and a great niece.

She loved much and was loved much and will be greatly missed by all

There will be a service held at the Bassano Presbyterian Church on Thursday November 24 at 2:00pm.

The family would like to thank all of mom’s loving caregivers who went above and beyond to love and take care of our sweet little mom.
