HARINK – John Ronald Harink

    Harink – John Ronald Harink of Brooks, husband and father, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday May 13th, 2021 at the age of 78 years.  He is remembered by his wife of 54 years, Nora Harink; sons, John Wayne Harink and Raye Alan Harink (Tracey); granddaughters, Brittney and Taylor.  John was born in Lethbridge on Oct. 23rd, 1942 to John and Johanna Harink, who pre-deceased him.  He was raised on a farm in the Monarch/Nobleford, Alberta area and the Bow Island/Winnifred, Alberta area.  John later joined the navy and was stationed in Nova Scotia, where he met Nora McKay in Halifax and were married on Oct. 8th, 1966 and had their first son John Wayne.  He later transferred to Victoria, B.C., where they had their second son Raye.  He soon returned back to Alberta and began work for the SMRID in Burdett, from there to Lethbridge, where he worked for Precision Drilling.  After leaving Lethbridge, John moved to Brooks, where he worked for Quinn Testers, Halliburton, and the EID, until his retirement.  After his being retired and bored, John went to work for Clearstream and later CFB Suffield as a Security Commissionaire.  John was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he had served as President on numerous occasions, as well as volunteering his time for anything that was needed.  In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and woodworking out in his shop.  He will also be remembered by his brothers, Keith, Alan, Robert and sister Anne as well as many nieces and nephews.  There will be no formal service due to Covid restrictions, but a Remembrance of Life will be held at a later date.  In memory of John, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 29th Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta   T2N 9Z9 or a charity of your choice.
