Goulet – Robert Allan Goulet Sr. (Bob or Bobby) of Brooks, beloved husband of Nancy Goulet, passed away in Brooks on Sunday, August 9th, 2020 at the age of 70 years. Bob was born on July 26th, 1950 in Neilburg, Saskatchewan to Phidime and Mabel Goulet. In 1959 the family moved from the Baldwinton homestead to Neilburg, where Bob would continue his schooling, graduating in 1968. He was a gifted athlete and was a member of the Neilburg Monarchs baseball team. Ralph Thomas mentored and trained Bob in meat cutting at the local CO-OP, a trade that would stick with Bob his entire adult life. Bob moved To Calgary in 1969 to find greener pastures and sharpen his craft with Safeway in the meat department. On June 21st, 1975, Bob married Margaret Cartmell, and they would soon welcome their first two of their four children, before moving to Brooks. Bob packed up his family and moved to Brooks in August 1977 to open the new Brooks Safeway location in their meat department. During the final years of their marriage, Bob and Margaret had two more children before their official split in 1984. In April 1991, Bob met the love of his life, Nancy Kendell. Bob married his Newfoundland beauty on January 7th, 1995. The two would be inseparable from then on. Bob was an active member of the Brook Curling Club, where he served as president from 1980-81. Bob competed at the Provincial level in Curling and won several trophies and tournaments (bonspiels) during his playing career. He was also a force to reckoned with on the softball field. Those fortunate enough to meet Bob throughout the years know what an incredible person he was. He was a phenomenal storyteller, cunning linguist, and an elite practical joker. Bob was overflowing with charisma, charm and had an unreal sense of humor. He had a way with people and was as warm and welcoming to strangers as he was to his long-time friends. Bob, a master of earth and grill, was known for his skillful preparation of Albertan beasts, throwing them on a red hot Weber grill and deliciously serving them up with fresh foliage from his abundant home garden for all to enjoy. Although he never signed an official record deal, Bob was a grade-a troubadour, who could easily go note-for-note with his country music favorites like Willie and Merle. In his later years, Bob’s favorite place to be was in his garage, and when he wasn’t processing meat or entertaining his garage guests, he was puffing on rum tipped cigars, eating chocolate bars, and scratching bingo tickets. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Phidime and Mabel, his brothers, Len, Leon, Lloyd, Art, Ernest, and his sister Elma. Bob leaves a lasting legacy and a lifetime of smiles with those whose lives he touched. He was dearly loved his friends and family and will be greatly missed. Our family would like to graciously thank Dr. Muller, AHS, Homecare, and all of our friends and family for the outpouring of support during his fight with Cancer. Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy; siblings, Bertie, Bert, Elmer, Louis, Russ, Cecille, Lucille, Phyills, Vyonne, Derril and Darlene; sons, Robert (grandkids Braiden and Hunter), Tyler (grandkids, Ella, Vivienne and Noah) and Chris (grandkids, Julian, Camilla, Sebastian, Priscilla and Daniella); daughter Lindsay and numerous other family members. In memory of Bob, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to a charity of one’s choice. A Family Service will be held at Smith Memorial Chapel. Rev. John Theiss officiating. Interment to follow at Neilburg, Saskatchewan.
