    Obituary Willie Bergman

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Vasily (Willie) Bergman of Rosemary, beloved husband of Annie Bergman. He passed away peacefully on October 12, 2021 at his home at the age of 83 years. Willie was born in Adelsheim, Ukraine on Jan 31, 1938 to Hans and Maria Bergman, the eldest of 3 children. The family’s happiness didn’t last long when World War 2 broke out as they endured extreme hardships having to move from Ukraine to Germany to Siberia and finally ending up in Kubanka Orenburg. In 1969 Willie married his great love Annie Penner who was his biggest support for 52 years through health issues, immigration as well as times of great blessings and joy of growing a happy family of children grandchildren and great grand children. Together they raised 3 children Marina, Ivan and Andrew. After 20 years of trying to immigrate to Canada the families dream came true in May, 1989 and they landed in Rosemary, Alberta. Willie started in construction and held various jobs to support his family; one of them being Lakeside Packers for 15 years until his retirement. He enjoyed being in nature; bird-watching fishing and spending time in his yard. But his greatest joy was quality family time and teaching his grandkids life skills. Willy was a peace-loving faithful man with high moral standards and very supportive of his family, whether it was with small jobs, trucking during harvest, helping with renovations or giving advice. Willie loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply. He leaves to grieve his wife Annie Bergman, his sister Mieka Valman, his daughter Marina (Viktor) Petker, his son Ivan (Anna) Bergman and son Andrew (Katelyn) Bergman; grandchildren, Jason (Darian) Petker, Daniel Petker, Malanie Bergman, Dylan Bergman, Brody Bergman, Jesse Bergman, Levi Bergman and 3 great grandchildren (Drew, Leah and Hallie Petker) and numerous brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews throughout Russia and Germany. A funeral service was held at 1:00 pm on October 17, 2021 at Thom’s funeral home.
