$20K worth of copper wire stolen, $10K in damages to site
Sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 5 about $20,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from an oil site in a rural area near Chancellor and Standard.
Bassano RCMP reports that a vehicle was used to pull and tow a large amount of thick cable and during the theft there was about $10,000 in damages done to the site.
Police collected evidence and the investigation is continuing.
Peace River driver facing impaired driving charge
On Jan. 7 at 4:15 p.m. Bassano RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle that was partially stopped in the right hand lane of Hwy. 1 just east of Bassano and that its driver was slumped over the wheel.
Police found the lone occupant and they determined later that the driver was three-and-a-half times over the legal limit of alcohol.
The driver lost his licence for 90 days and his vehicle for 30 days while waiting for criminal charges to be laid.
Police continue to investigate and report that no other vehicle was involved.
