Beware of travelling paving companies
RCMP are urging the public to be aware of the travelling paving companies going through rural areas.
The companies arrive in rural communities and offer various services such as paving and/or roofing, typically to vulnerable people like seniors.
The “contractors” provide few details of their identity and often use non-descriptive vehicles.
The scammers will want immediate payment and will pressure you to make a decision and will state they are in the area.
They provide poor quality services and disappear as soon as they receive payment.
Property owners are left with nowhere to turn once they realize the services they received are not what they expected.
If someone comes to your home to offer the service get all the information you can including business cards, vehicle identification such as licence plate.
You can see if they are legitimate by contacting the Better Business Bureau at 1-403‑531‑8784 or the RCMP at 310-RCMP (7267) non-emergency number.
