Editor, The Bulletin;
I read in the Nov. 6 Bulletin that city taxes were to increase about 5.5 per cent. In the Nov. 20 Bulletin I read elected officials are getting a raise of $5,000 to $10,000. This seems to me that taxpayers are getting somewhat shafted–taking from Peter to pay Paul, taxpayers being Peter.
In the area of Fairview Park Lane where I live, the town/city has been taking taxes for about 24 years. The city does nothing for us because of some deal signed when the condos were built.
We look after everything through condo fees–water main and sewer line breaks, etc. We pay to have snow removal on our roads by a private company. We are a cash cow for the city.
Apparently there were too many mistakes in construction years ago for the building inspector to handle–he just threw up his hands and walked away.
Further to my rant, I looked up the word “bamboozled” –there was a picture of Brooks city council. Where else would you find a city giving away 20 plus acres of potentially taxable land to a school board which can get money from government (tax dollars) and never pay taxes to the city. Crazy.
