Brooklyn Niznik returned to the Calgary Stampede stage over the summer as a second year member of Showriders.
The program is made up of youth between the ages of 14 and 21 who demonstrate advanced horsemanship skills during their performances which are held at numerous rodeos during the summer.
“It’s not only a partnership with you and your animal but also with your team,” said Niznik following the season.
As a member of the team for the second year, Niznik was the oldest at 22 and she set the example.
She said she had to keep her cool and not let her emotions get in the way during the hot days.
“Just trying to stay present and not get overwhelmed. If things are frustrating just trying to be a leader and push myself to be a leader of the team and just show myself that I can be bigger,” she said.
The team’s season began in May in High Prairie during which time she and her horse, Monty, led the parade.
“That was super fun for both of us to be able to do that. It’s just such a great town to be in,” she said.
The team performed during Stampedes or parades over the summer, including at the Calgary Stampede, ending the season in Strathmore in August.
I am so glad I did a second year,” she said.
