Charges are expected to be laid in connection with a minivan that was stolen from Medicine Hat and rolled multiple times on Highway 1 east of Highway 56 on Dec. 23 at about 8:40 a.m.
Bassano RCMP reported that the van had been stolen on Dec. 22 and as it drove towards Calgary, the female driver lost control on the icy road and the minivan rolled several times before it came to a stop in the median.
After firefighters from Bassano and Standard freed the male passenger he was airlifted from the scene by STARS to a Calgary hospital.
The driver and another female passenger were transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The three are from the Medicine Hat area and are between the ages of 28 and 34.
As of Christmas Eve all three had still been in serious condition.
The investigation is continuing to determine the factors around the collision, theft and criminal charges.
