Nearly $22K in overdue debt written off by city

After seven years of trying to collect just under $22,000 from 16 overdue accounts the City of Brooks has written off the debts.
City administration has been trying to collect debts for $453.75 for fire inspections, $4,878.79 for property clean-ups, $9,164.94 in outstanding sign permits and the removal and storage of signs, one building permit inspection at $110.03, $3,254.05 in sewage effluent charges and $3,817.90 for a vehicle fire.
The amounts are uncollectable due to their age and all collection efforts have been exhausted, Shelley Thomas, the city’s finance manager told council.
