The Brooks Lacrosse Association’s request for a reduced rate to use the Centennial Regional Arena was essentially tabled at the city committee meeting.
In August the Chaos Junior Lacrosse Club hosted an invitational event but three BC teams failed to attend, costing the club extra money.
“They were expecting eight teams to register. There were three BC teams that did not. Out of eight teams they were expecting five teams committed so there was a shortfall in their registration fees.
“The absence of three BC teams created a shortfall of $7,500,” the city’s recreational manager, Randi McPhillips, told city council committee last Tuesday.
She said the organization is requesting a reduction in facility costs.
“They are non-profit and all funds go to expenses for the team,” she said.
Mayor John Petrie said previous councils have asked for audited financial statements when such requests are made.
McPhillips will request the documents from the organization.
“In fairness to them they never asked us for a cent. They were very good. The three B.C. teams just didn’t show up,” said mayor John Petrie.
The total rental cost for the facility was $5,500.
