Editor, The Bulletin;
Our neighbour to south of the 49th is in the midst of a coup launched by Trump and his DOGE henchman,
Elon Musk. Musk and his posse of engineer frat boys are unlawfully breaking into government offices. As Senator Chuck Schumer calls it “an unelected shadow government … conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government”. A coup is a coup is a coup. No other word accurately captures the fast-paced, horrific and unlawful attacks against US government institutions, which the media outlets are showing us in real-time but not calling it by its true name. Trump has launched a scorched earth campaign against the federal government, its employees and American citizens. This wanton destruction of the USAID, the US Treasury, the FBI and the Department of Education is the hallmark of Project 2025. The angst and fear Americans and people around the world are experiencing arises from the blatant disregard for the rule of law and democratic norms on which the US was founded. This is the biggest internal attack on the United
States since the American War of Independence and the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776.
US Senators must join those protesting on the streets in front of government buildings, even risking
arrest, to stop the overthrow of the government.
As Canadians, we must not be fooled. Trump and his tech bros have no regard for us. Canadians and our governments must not stand idly by and watch Washington burn because we could be next. We must fight. Canada must choose not to do business with Musk and his billionaire tech cronies. On March 31st, the Canadian government ends its $5000 rebate program for electric vehicles. The program must not be renewed. Trudeau and Freeland have given Musk billions of dollars in concessions; thereby, making the richest man in the world even richer. Severe tariffs against Tesla vehicles must be immediately implemented. As we watch Starlink satellites fall from the sky in brilliant fireballs (120 in January 2025 alone), we must cancel all contracts with Starlink. Economic pressure can be applied by making the conscious decision to not buy US products or travel to the US. We need to hit the tech billionaires, like those who own Amazon, Facebook and X where it hurts the most; their bottom line. The almighty dollar is their God.
Provincial premiers must put their differences aside and join with the federal government to protect our country, citizens and economy; the True North strong, free and in harmony. It is incumbent that our provincial premiers act in unison when dealing with the tyrant Trump; going it alone is a sign of weakness. Premiers who pander to their political base only show their weakness. When we see the utter disregard by Trump and his tech thugs to the rule of law, it is incumbent on our elected officials to follow Canadian law and act to respect and safeguard our federal and provincial institutions and democracy.
The diversification of our exports must be chief of mind for the future of Canada and our national economic security. Mid-2025 marks a critical juncture in Canada’s diversification of our oil and gas exports with the export of liquid natural gas (LNG) to Asia from the west coast of Canada. Tantamount to Canada achieving economic independence in the face of US tariff economic warfare is for Canada to act decisively and construct a LNG pipeline to the east coast of Canada for the export of LNG to Europe.
Economic diversification forged through national unity leads to national economic security, ultimately weakening a tyrant’s threats of tariffs.
Low are those who disrespect the Other; sometimes the Low must be reminded that strong are those in the True North. We are not the Other. We are Canadians, Strong and Free. We will defend our Canada.
