Brooks massage therapist charged with sexual assault

Brooks Bulletin

Jay Castelo, a 46-year-old massage therapist who is also a custodian at a Grasslands school has been charged with sexual assault as a result of a complaint by a 20-year-old female.
Brooks RCMP began an investigation into the allegations on Dec. 21, 2018.
Police say a female attended the business for an appointment and was allegedly sexually assaulted throughout her massage.
Grasslands Regional School Board superintendent Scott Brandt stated they were informed of the charges by the RCMP and Castelo was immediately placed on a leave of absence.
“That would be typical for an employee on any charges,” he said.
Brandt said providing safe and caring schools is a priority.
All employees must submit a clean criminal record check including the vulnerable sector before being hired.
“While these allegations and charges are part of a criminal investigation, Grasslands will work with authorities as necessary,” he said.
Castelo has been released from custody on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Brooks Provincial Court tomorrow.
The RCMP are not providing any further information.
