Brooks Composite High School skip Jacob Falkenberg admits that he and his team, Jesse Elsbett, Micah Fontaine and Justin Mrazek, were a little disappointed with their second place finish at the South Central Curling Zones that were held in Brooks last week.
BCHS was defeated by Didsbury High School (Mountain View School Division), 3-1.
“Second place is nice and all but we’re always wanting more.
“It’s always nice to be on the podium. Before that game (final) I knew we were coming out happy whether we win or lose,” Falkenberg said.
The gold medal game was a nail-biter coming down to the last rock.
“It was a really close game and it was really make the shots that were called. They’re a very well rounded team. They make their hits, make their draws.
“We really just got outplayed and gave up a couple of points early that lost us the game,” he said.
Brooks gave up two points in the first end. There was no scoring by either side until the seventh end.
“In the seventh we scored one. We had to steal to tie in the eighth. They ended up scoring which finished at 3-1 for them.”
Although Brooks was defeated by Didsbury, Falkenberg said he expected more from them based on the other high scores they had during zones.
“I was expecting to have a really tough game against them.”
Didsbury will return to Brooks for the 2025 ASAA curling provincials which begin on Feb. 27.
BCHS will play their first match on Feb. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
In addition to Brooks, Bassano School entered the zones event. They were defeated in two games.
