    Zibell – William “Bill” Alfred Zibell of Bassano, beloved husband of the late Betty Zibell, passed away at his home in Bassano on Sunday, March 25th, 2018 at the age of 78 years. Bill was born at Mrs. Sarah King’s home in Brooks on January 6th, 1940 to Wilhelm and Ida Zibell of Patricia. He attended his first year of schooling in Millicent, Alberta in 1946 and continued his schooling in Patricia until 1955 when Bill’s family moved to Brooks, where he finished his schooling in 1958. He worked for Richman’s Grocery Store, Marshall Wells Hardware Store after school and T.R. Baxter Construction, during summer holidays. Following graduation, Bill worked for Jacobsen Construction, T.R. Baxter Construction, and Carlson Brothers Trucking. He married Betty Carlson on January 7th, 1961 in Brooks. Bill bought his first truck in 1964 and started Zibell Trucking, hauling gravel. In 1972, Bill acquired a gravel pit to enhance the business. The family moved to Bassano in 1974, where he continued operating the company, with his sons joining in the family business in later years. Zibell Trucking was very much a family operation, with Betty being the King Pin of all business transactions and Bill looking after the operation of machinery, road and gravel operations. Bill enjoyed visiting with all of his customers, equipment sales people and people in the community, many of whom he considered very good friends. His hobbies were woodworking and ironwork. The coffee was always on at the shop and there was always soda pops ready at the house for anyone who stopped in for a visit. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Betty in 2013, father Wilhelm in 1955, mother Ida in 2004 and brother Arlie Karl Zibell in 1977. He is survived by his sons, Bill Jr. and his wife Dallas and Brad and his wife Shelley; two granddaughters Hailey and Kayla and three great grandsons. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6th at 2:00 PM from Knox Presbyterian Church, Bassano. Rev. Ken Wells of St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Brooks officiating. Interment at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Bill if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Bassano and District Health Foundation, Box 120, Bassano, Alberta T0J 0B0.
