Yokoyama –
“Roy” Ichiro Yokoyama passed away in Brooks, Alberta on December 21, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born in Coghlan, BC on May 16, 1932. He and his family were placed in a few interment camps during World War ll (Harris Ranch, Sandon). After the war his family settled in Rosebery, BC. Dad came to Alberta to attend SAIT to take Motor Mechanics. He was with General Motors for over 40 years – Pheasant Sales which became Community GMC. We had a running joke, saying that there was one four letter F word we could never say – Ford. He was very proud of being the service manager. Although he was deaf in one ear, he had a skill where he could often diagnose the issue with a vehicle by listening to it run. After dad retired, he volunteered at Barry & Merlin’s garage Tech Boyz for 20 years. Roy was predeceased by siblings: Miyo (Sueo), Sus and three infant siblings, in-laws: Mas & Joan, Henry, Shigeo, Lillian, Tomoe and Nora, grandson Christopher, and special friends who were like family: Harry & Betty Tanigami, Yosh & Miyo Fujimoto. He is survived by his wife Joyce of 65 years, sons Rod (Denise), Barry (Susan), and daughter Lori. He was really proud of his grandkids and great grandkids. Roy is also survived by his brother Ken (Jean), sisters Terri (David), Jean (Bill) as well as Nakamura in-laws: Gayle, Karl Bremerman, Dennis (Gloria) and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Chris who was always willing to take dad out fishing. In retirement, dad enjoyed spending time with his family, watching the grandkids in their activities and eating good food. Dad was able to stay home up until the day before his passing. Dad was always thankful for all of the friends he has had in our community. Special thank you to Dr Elgersma, Dr Visser, Dr van der Westhuyzen, Melanie, Brooks Home Care, and Brooks Health Centre staff who assisted us in keeping him comfortable. In respect of dad’s wishes, no formal service will be held.
