Wiebe – Walter Wiebe of Brooks passed away on Friday, March 24th, 2006 in Brooks at the age of 100 years. Born on August 28th, 1905 in Stadtfelde, Westprussia, Germany. Walter immigrated to Canada in 1952, and had several jobs throughout Alberta during those first years. In 1960, Walter was able to buy a farm in Rosemary and enjoyed many years there, raising crops and hogs. Upon retiring, he moved into the Playfair Lodge in Bassano where the staff gave him excellent care. In 2005, Walter’s failing health forced him to move into Brooks Nursing Home and later to Orchard Manor in Brooks. He was predeceased by his parents, Heinrich and Emilie Wiebe, two sisters, Elisabeth Wiebe and Kate Regehr. Walter is survived by one brother, Heinrich and family, all of Germany, niece Ursula (Frank) Brunner of Calgary, and nephew Karl (Frieda) Regehr of Rosemary. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 30th at 2:00 PM from the Rosemary Mennonite Church. Reverend George Baerg officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Karl Regehr, Gordon Regehr, Dirk Regehr, Norman Regehr, Frank Brunner and Jeff Brunner. Interment to follow at Rosemary Cemetery.
