Wiebe – Kathe Wiebe (nee Claassen) passed away peacefully in Brooks on April 11th, 2006, three days short of her 96th birthday. Born April 14th, 1910 in Palschau, West Prussia, Germany Kathe was the second youngest of five sisters and had a happy childhood, enjoyed many youth get-togethers, and loved music. Her family attended the Mennonite Church and there she was baptized upon her confession of faith. At the age of 21 Kathe married Kurt Wiebe and moved to a farm in Schonsee. They were blessed with one daughter and four sons. Soon difficult war times started and brought many hardships. With the help of MCC the family was able to immigrate to Coaldale, AB in 1951. They worked hard in the sugar beets and enjoyed the friendship of friends and fellowship in church. In 1956 they bought a farm in the Rosemary area and were again welcomed by the church and the community. Kathe enjoyed her many grandchildren, was very active in the church’s Ladies Aid, was an excellent homemaker, and loved gardening. Her husband Kurt passed away in 1982 and shortly after she moved to Rosemary Villa where she continued to enjoy her hobbies and companionship of the other ladies. In 1996 Kathe moved to the Brooks Lodge and later to Orchard Manor. The family will be forever grateful for the excellent care and the loving compassion she received there, and wish to express a special thank-you to all the staff. She will be greatly missed by her family, Marianne (Walter) Regehr, Horst (Hannelore) Wiebe, Helmut (Irma) Wiebe, Eckardt (Ute) Wiebe, Karl (Annie) Wiebe; 21 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 17th at 2PM from the Rosemary Mennonite Church. Rev. George Baerg officiated. Active Pallbearers were Kathe’s grandsons. Interment followed at Rosemary Cemetery. In memory of Kathe, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 76 Skyline Crescent NE, Calgary T2K 5X7.
