White – Wanda Irene White of Brooks, beloved wife of the late Robert Tait White, passed away in Brooks on November 18th, 2006 at the age of 79 years. Born in Orion, Alberta on January 11th, 1927 Wanda received her early education in the Orion/Manyberries area and later in Medicine Hat. She attended the University of Alberta where she met her future husband, Robert. They were married on September 25th, 1950 in Medicine Hat and resided in Brooks since then. Before losing much of her eyesight to macular degeneration, Wanda loved reading, baking, weaving, gardening and many other activities. She was a member of the Alberta Library Board (1986-1991), a Lieutenant Governor appointee to the Shortgrass Library System Board, a member of the Brooks Library Foundation board, the winner of the “Deserving Trustee Award” by the Alberta Library Trustees Association for 1997, and was awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2005 for “outstanding service to the people and province of Alberta”. She was also a long-time member of St. Alban’s Anglican Church. Wanda will be remembered by many for her hard work on behalf of libraries, her sense of humour, (and her great pies!) She was predeceased by her husband Robert on March 4th, 1999. Wanda is survived by her loving family, 2 sons Tait and his wife Mary of Brooks and Rob and his wife Dawrung of Pattaya, Thailand; 2 grandchildren James White, Sheena (Rob) Irwin both of Calgary. A private family service was held on Friday, December 1st in Brooks.
